WBTS False Prophecies - and the Lying Cover-ups! - 5

World War I was claimed to fit the 'great time of trouble' - but it did NOT lead to the complete overthrow of 'the world powers' and 'wholesale destruction of Christendom' as these false prophets claimed

These two pages (right) are supplied so that those interested in reading a fuller account from this work of the cult leader, C.T. Russell, can see that the subject and context are clear.

Notice how the false prophets of the WBTS use a common ploy which fools many:

They use a dramatic event - in this case World War I and claim their earlier 'prophecy' to have been fulfilled.  In other words: they 'prophesy around it'.  In this case the 'great time of trouble' certainly inflicted a lot of pain and terror on a large part of the world - but it did NOT lead to the complete overthrow of 'the world powers' and 'wholesale destruction of Christendom' that these false prophets claimed.

The gullible will say, 'Yes, but they were partly right - and at least they prophesied!'

The truth is that they were no more 'right' than the spiritualist or fortune-teller who makes a claim that there will be a disaster of some kind in the world tomorrow - and some disaster will occur, as they do virtually every day of the year.  But they either supply no details so that virtually anything fits their words, or they supply detail (as the WBTS did) - and both prove they are false prophets speaking in the names of other gods (who are no gods!).

Studies in the Scriptures, Series VI, 'The New Creation', written in 1904 by Pastor C.T. Russell, p578-579
- we read:

'According to our expectations
the stress of the great time of trouble will be on us soon, somewhere between 1910 and 1912 - culminating with the end of the "Times of the Gentiles," October, 1914.*

* See Vol. II, pp. 76-78.  Accordingly the culmination of the mustering forces came in the Autumn of 1914 with the outbreak of the great European war - a stage in the overthrow of Satan's Empire.'

What C.T. Russell claimed about world events, even before 1914, is very different from the revised version presented by the WBTS in comparatively recent years.

In 1909, in the Preface to the Convention Report, the WBTS made these claims:

  1.   the Report is now publicly known to be in harmony with the WATCH TOWER BIBLE AND TRACT SOCIETY. Privately it has always been in harmony and has been considered as an auxiliary publication, but now, as many of you have noticed through the columns of the TOWER, it has Brother Russell's public recognition.
  2.   Our reason for a appreciating Brother Russell's recognition more than that of any other man living is that, we have FAITH that the Lord has returned, that He is the Chief Reaper of this Harvest, that He has been supervising that work for now about thirty-five years ...
  3.   He has placed Brother Russell in charge of that work that the WATCH TOWER BIBLE AND TRACT SOCIETY is the CHANNEL which He has been pleased to use for the dissemination of the harvest message - the "meat in due season," and we wish to be in thorough harmony with Him and the Channel He uses, and to cooperate in every way possible.
  4.   We trust it has been so vividly impressed upon our minds that we will never forget the fact that, if any oppose the Lord by opposing the Channel and the Servant the Lord has delegated to do His work, to that extent he loses the favor, the Spirit of the Lord, light becomes darkness, and he is soon outside.

So, in conclusion, it is obvious that the WBTS taught that:

If, in 1909, you did not believe C. T. Russell was "the faithful & wise servant" you would lose the Spirit of the Lord and 'soon [be] outside'?  Can anyone wonder why, just like the major Christian cult of Papal Rome, people who are thoroughly indoctrinated Jehovah's Witnesses become terrified to leave the 'organisation' because to leave - when they dis-fellowship you (as they so often do!) - is to be 'outside' and in 'darkness'.  The many testimonies of Jehovah's Witnesses who left the WBTS (see end of these pages) reveal the treatment meted out by this controlling organisation.

Did C.  T.  Russell admit in The Watchtower - in all modesty and humility - that he was "the faithful & wise servant"?

See below!

Why do you think that the President of the WBTS claimed (in 1973 - see below) that C. T.  Russell 'never did claim' to be the 'faithful & wise servant' when the evidence (from The Watchtower, 12/1/1916 - above) shows otherwise?

Studies in the Scriptures, Series II, 'The Time is at Hand', 1912, p76-77 - we are told:

'In this chapter we present the Bible evidence proving that
the full end of the times of the Gentiles, i.e., the full end of their lease of dominion, will be reached in A.D. 1914; and that that date will see the disintegration of the rule of imperfect men.  And be it observed, that if this is shown to be a fact firmly established by the Scriptures, it will prove Firstly, That at that date the Kingdom of God, for which our Lord taught us to pray, saying, "Thy Kingdom come," will begin to assume control, and that it will then shortly be "set up," or firmly established, in the earth, on the ruins of present institutionsSecondly, It will prove that he whose right it is thus to take the dominion will then be present as earth's new Ruler; and not only so, but it will also prove that he will be present for a considerable period before that date; because the overthrow of these Gentile governments is directly caused by his dashing them to pieces as a potter's vessel (Psa. 2:9; Rev. 2:27), and establishing in their stead his own righteous government.  Thirdly, It will prove that some time before the end of the overthrow the last member of the divinely recognized Church of Christ, the "royal priesthood," "the body of Christ," will be glorified with the Head; because every member is to reign with Christ, being a joint-heir with him of the Kingdom, and it cannot be fully "set up" without every member.  Fourthly, It will prove that from that time forward Jerusalem shall no longer be trodden down of the Gentiles, but shall arise from the dust of divine disfavor, to honor; because the "Times of the Gentiles" will be fulfilled or completed. Fifthly, It will prove that by that date, or sooner, Israel's blindness will begin to be turned away; because their "blindness in part" was to continue only "until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in" (Romans. 11:25), or, in other words, until the full number from among the Gentiles, who are to be members of the body or bride of Christ, would be fully selected.'

Again we read another version of the pretentious scenario which the WBTS have clung to for most of their history - all of it the product of false prophets!
